Dear Coaches and Media,
Attached is information about Saturday's Knight Night Relays. I think we have a unique race planned that the kids will enjoy. Below is an overview of some of the "bells and whistles" for the meet.
- Each team will be assigned a 12" glowstick instead of a baton. I have tried to assign you a color that is one of your school colors, but glow sticks only come in "neon" colors. Here is the list of schools and their assigned color: East Fairmont - Yellow, Jefferson - Orange, Morgantown - Blue, North Marion - Green, Preston - Pink (my boys team is ticked off), Tucker County - Green, University - Red, Webster County - Red.
- We will start each race with fireworks instead of a starters pistol. The first leg of each race will start when they visually see the fireworks.
- We will playing music in the press box throughout the races. Former Preston High Cross Country Coach, Greg Messenger, will be adding commentary about the race.
- The course will be "lit" primarily from the stadium lights. We have supplemented the course with vehicular lights, tiki torches, luminaries, and various other light sources. You will get the feel that is Christmas in August. Athletes will have the option of using headlamps. We will have several sets available, but you may want to bring your own. - The WVU Women's team is scheduled to take part in a inter-squad race after the high school races.
- We will have a cook-out after the race. The menu will consist of hotdogs, potato salad / macaroni salad, chips, and watermelon. If your team would like to donate food to the cook-out, please let me know.
- A limited number of t-shirts will be for sale. The t-shirts will be black with the attached logo on the front.
Please pay particular attention to the schedule on the attachment. We will begin with an open race at 8:00 p.m. That will be followed by the high school girls race at 8:30 p.m. and the high school boys race at 9:15. The WVU Women will begin their race at the conclusion of the boys high school race.
In regards to your entries, please just email me a list of your relay teams. Designate them with letters (i.e. Jefferson A, B, C, etc.). Incomplete relay teams are perfectly fine (i.e. a two member relay).
