Capital City Striders had 5 athletes compete over the weekend in a two day meet of over 1400 kids competing at the USATF Youth Indoor Nationals held at Prince George’s County in Landover, Maryland. They brought home 7 medals of which two were Silver and 5 were bronze medals. This was a great weekend of running for West Virginia athletes.

Anacia Hines won two bronze medals by placing 3rd each in the 55 meter hurdles and 55 meter dash open. Hines, a sophomore, from St. Albans was All-State last year in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes.

Noah Castro, the 10 year old national sensation from Winfield, competing in the 11-12 year old division due to him turning 11 in 2013 (December 31) had a break out meet. After being seeded 10th in the 3000m, he waited patiently as the fast pace of 11-12 year olds went out extremely fast. He made his move on lap 10 of 15, moving from 8th to 5th. Then one by one, picking off runners until he finally took the lead on the bell lap before being nipped at the line by 12 year old Ben Aris by 0.7 sec. Both broke the National Indoor record by over 6 seconds which was set by Zachary Kinne of Naperville, IL. in 2010 in a time of 10:23.83. Noah ran a 10:18.13 (a 45 sec. Personal Record!!!) Noah came back 2 hours later & took 3rd in the 800 meter run. On Sunday, he had another Personal Record in the 1500 taking 2nd in a stack field with a blazing fast time (for a 10 year old) of 4:59.29.
