No West Virginians competed in the opening night of the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC. The low key first day featured just two events: "The Fastest Kid in Greensboro" and the 5000 Meter Run. This was the first 5K run ever held at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Bona Jones of Estero HS in Florida won the girls race all alone in 16:57. Ben Massam of New Jersey took the more competitive boys with a time of 14:48.
Many West Virginia athletes will be competing on Friday and Saturday. Look for a summary of their performances following the race.
